Description du stage

Americans for Informed Democracy is a national youth network taking action to demand a more peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world. We are a virtual, member-driven community using the most exciting and innovative techniques for organizing communities for social change.

We are seeking Movement Builders who will play a key role in building and strengthening our national network. This is an amazing opportunity for a budding leader who wants to expand his/her skills around organizing, communications and campaigning. This is a year-long, virtual, volunteer position with a commitment of 3-5 hours/week.

Who we are: Americans for Informed Democracy (AIDemocracy)'s vision is that every young person in the United States exercises their power to bring about a peaceful, healthy, just and sustainable world. Our mission is to educate, cultivate and mobilize a network of young people to take informed action around our individual and collective roles as global citizens. We are the only national youth network that takes a comprehensive approach to global issues, and we place equal emphasis on empowering young leaders and inspiring action to build a better world. We are a virtual, member-driven, self-funded community.

Responsibilities: The Movement Builder will work with our Student Advisory Board and Network Coordinator to identify strategy for our national student movement, and take the lead on implementing it. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying ways to grow our community of globally-minded youth activists.
  • Identifying audiences to reach out to, ranging from national youth organizations to individual campus or community leaders.
  • Fostering ownership, trust and excitement within our network, from the 50-person core leadership team to our thousands of netroots activists.
  • Developing cutting-edge social media strategies and content to communicate the story and work of our network.
  • Gathering and incorporating feedback from the network.
  • Facilitating training opportunities for network leaders.

The Details: This is a virtual, volunteer position. Movement builders will contribute approximately 3-5 hours/week through June 2013.

Skills and Qualifications Needed: This is an exciting position for a proven young leader who wants to take his/her skills to the next level. Applicants should have some experience leading peers around social change - that can include playing a key role in a club on campus, in a community organization, or in an online community. The biggest thing we're looking for are people who are excited, want to learn, believe in our mission, and can make this commitment.
