Hands for Africa is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. HFA works to alleviate the hardship of thousands of civil war victims in Sierra Leone. The ten-year long civil war broke out in 1991 over natural resources, primarily the diamond trade. Thousands of Sierra Leoneans and other Africans were maimed and raped, four million displaced, and countless more further impoverished by the blood diamond industry, which continues despite an end to the war in 2002. Out of this tragedy, HFA was born with the mission of restoring lost hope to the innocent victims. HFA provides prosthetics for the maimed, micro-finance to establish self-reliance, medical aid, clean water, and educational opportunities for these individuals.
Hands for Africa is looking for an intern to perform the following tasks to aid us our mission:
Hands for Africa is looking for a dedicated, hard-working fundraising and development coordinator intern to help inspire a movement. This is an opportunity to work with a 501c3 non-profit and receive instruction and real-world experience in the role of assisting a non-profit organization with fundraising and outreach. We are looking for an enthusiastic, out-going intern to assist the organization.
You Are:
- Deeply committed to our mission of building a movement
- Low drama with the highest standards and professionalism and civility
- Detail-oriented and are able to multi-task many different tasks
- Excellent communication skills
You Will:
- Generate fundraising income through campaigns and events targeting foundations, corporations, civic groups, creating sister chapters in universities, colleges and high schools, churches and with individual donors
- Research, contact, and communicate with potential donors
- Maintain relationships with current donors
- Communicate with college and high school HFA chapters and coordinate events
- Assist in research and grant writing
