Internship Description

CalSERVES, a program of Napa County Office of Education's Research & Professional Development Center, is looking for a dedicated and eager intern for our afterschool program. This position would be based out of one of our six after school program locations in Santa Rosa: Bellevue Elementary, Kawana Elementary, Meadow View Elementary School, R.L. Stevens Elementary, Taylor Mountain Elementary, or Wright Charter.

Tasks include:

  • Tutoring
  • Facilitating lesson plans once a week
  • Observing different teaching and tutoring styles
  • Applying behavioral management techniques
  • Engaging children

CalSERVES runs literacy tutoring and after school programs in Southwest Santa Rosa elementary schools. With focused instruction in nutrition, PE, art, math, and science, we strive to create an outstanding learning environment and make an impact in the life of every child.

Time Requirement

Anywhere from 2-10 hours per week, flexible with your schedule. Minimum commitment of 2 months. Duration of internship can vary based on your needs. Positions are available for Spring semester, Summer, or Fall semester 2013.

Qualifications

All majors welcome! This position is designed for a Junior or Senior Undergraduate, or a first/second year Graduate student. College Freshmen, Sophomores, and non-students are also encouraged to apply.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Passion for service and education
  • Strong communication skills including public speaking, explaining and simplifying ideas for students
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to work as a part of a team
  • Interest in pursuing a career in education a plus, not required
  • Leadership experience a plus, not required

Compensation

This internship is designed to provide professional and leadership experience for an individual looking to work in the education field, nonprofit industry or other professional settings. Upon completion of the internship the intern may utilize the supervisor as a reference and request letters of recommendation for future job applications. This position may be taken for college credit. This position is unpaid.
