Case Management Service Intern
The National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP), a nonprofit organization, is the global leader in providing bone marrow and umbilical cord blood transplants to patients in need. As Be The Match®, we operate the Be The Match Registry®, the world's largest listing of potential marrow donors and donated cord blood units and raise funds to help provide transplants to all patients through the Be The Match Foundation®. We also match patients with donors, educate health care professionals and conduct research through our research arm, the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research® (CIBMTR), so more lives can be saved.
The Case Management department is responsible for scheduling and coordinating transplants for patients. This team works in close collaboration with transplant centers, donor centers, and cord blood banks worldwide to identify an appropriate donor. The Case Management team is multi-faceted, and the purpose of the Service Intern would be to support Case Management team members and ultimately, the patient as they progress toward transplant.

The Intern will work within the Case Management department at the NMDP Coordinating Center in Minneapolis. At times, this position might collaborate on interdepartmental project teams including departments that support Case Management.
Supports the Case Management team and individual patient-search progression through a variety of duties. Assists with entering patient information to identify potential donors and cords for transplant. Supports and monitors the donor recovery process for donors post-donation. Learns and uses NMDP-specific computer applications and maintains donor and patient confidentiality at all search phases. Maintains an organized sort and file process that supports the Case Management team. Participates in other activities and special projects as assigned.

Length of Appointment:
Full Semester (8-12 weeks)
A minimum of 120 hours (10-12 hours/week) are required / Unpaid
Qualifications and Requirements:
Self-motivator with an interest in non-profit work; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Intern must have achieved a High School Diploma, be tied to an institution of higher learning, and be at least 18 years old. Intern must adhere to the NMDP Confidentiality Policy and must pass a background check prior to hire. An interest in healthcare, science, or a related field could be helpful for this position.
Intern will be assigned a computer and work station and have access to all tools and resources needed to complete the tasks of this position. On-site supervision, training, and support will be provided by the Case Management team. In addition, NMDP Volunteer Services staff is also available for ongoing support.
Interns can expect to develop time management skills, communication skills, and practical experience in a professional work environment.
Interns will develop a high level understanding of unrelated donor/cord blood transplant as facilitated by NMDP, the global leader in this important work.
NMDP References could be made available to the intern upon successful (and satisfactory) completion of this internship.
Basic skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) are preferred.
