Position Overview

The Mozambique Coastal Fisheries Internrole will be to support Rare's Senior Director, Program Development with Fish Forever program scoping efforts in Mozambique. The intern will assist in the development of a feasibility study for Rare programs in Mozambique and in the Western Indian Ocean in general.

Areas of Responsibility This position will have a number of responsibilities, including:

• Conducting research on fisheries and marine protected areas in Mozambique and the Western Indian Ocean
• Assisting with the production of an internal feasibility study
• Assisting with development and implementation of workshops

Qualifications, Skills & Core Competencies Required

• Obtaining a Bachelor's degree or received Bachelor's degree ideally in Marine Science, Environmental Science, natural resource management, or conservation
• Portuguese and Englsih language skills required
• Knowledge of marine ecology
• Knowledge of Marine Protected Areas and the importance of No Take Zones
• Demonstrated research experience, especially relating to marine legislation
• Attention to detail and proven ability to execute highly specific tasks
• Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage deadlines independently
• Demonstrated interest in conservation/environmental issues through coursework, work experience, or extracurricular activity
• Some travel may be required

Compensation and Academic Credit Rare offers paid internship positions to eligible International Service Program participants in its Arlington office. Current university students are encouraged to make arrangements to receive academic credit for their work at Rare, and Rare will make every effort to accommodate the requirements of credit-earning internships.
