Little Kids Rock www.littlekidsrock.org is a nationally recognized nonprofit that transforms children's lives by restoring and revitalizing music education in our nation's public schools. Little Kids Rock inspires children to express themselves through music – building the creativity, confidence, and self-esteem that are critical to success in school and beyond. As the largest music organization of its kind, Little Kids Rock:
• Provides free musical instruments and trained school teachers to children who would not otherwise have access to music education in their school settings;
• Prepares public school teachers from low-income school districts to offer classes utilizing innovative education methods and materials;
• Pioneers innovative teaching methods that are rooted in children's knowledge of popular music forms such as rock, rap, blues, and hip-hop.
Little Kids Rock is seeking an intern who will be taught valuable development, fundraising and general management skills while assisting the Development team in the organization's fundraising efforts. The Development Department solicits contributions and grants, plans and executes special events, and manages the membership division.
Working with direction from the Development Officer, the Development Intern will assist with donor appeals and acknowledgments,learn to research funders (including government, foundation, corporate, and individuals), learn development databases, help coordinate special events, assist with the government and community outreach efforts, as well as data entry and departmental support.
The right match for this position will be a highly motivated, intelligent individual with strong written and oral communication skills with an interest in a career in not for profit fundraising and management.
Up to three days per week for a period of at least three months is preferred. Exact days and times will be established in harmony with the intern's schedule.
This is a volunteer educational opportunity for a non-profit institution under no contract of hire, express or implied, and with no promise of compensation as part of the conditions of work. By volunteering as an intern, your right to minimum wage is waived. Travel reimbursement is provided to defray travel expenses.Credit is also available.
