There is a large need and demand for global awareness, cross-cultural education and English language teaching in rural Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan and many students resort to taking expensive language courses in the cities. Our facility ECRC (Education, Empowerment and Career Resource Centre) runs various activities related to cross cultural education, English and global awareness at different levels. The activities include at school or after school classes for the rural children, nominally paid classes for youth in our ECRC, workshops for young women in our women empowerment projects. Part of the revenues generated from the language courses is used to support our ViKAS Centre facilities that support our social projects, such as environmental conservation, women empowerment, etc.
Since many locals want to study, work or settle abroad in developed countries, the language classes also consist of a cross-cultural component to help them create a global perspective and overcome stereotypes of foreign cultures, leading to better cultural integration.
Responsibilities:
- Manage classes (inc. counseling and enrolments, learner records, managing the teaching schedule, curriculum writing, program preparation);
- Deliver classes;
- Direct and provide support to other team members;
- Together with the VIKAS Centre Manager, assess human resource, financial and material needs;
- Develop new innovative and services and products;
Skills and qualities:
- Good cross-cultural, teaching, management and leadership skills;
- Experience in teaching and/or previous work in education is a plus.
