Undergraduate/Graduate Internships

3 opportunities currently available:

  • Social Impact Campaign Research & Strategy Intern
  • 100 Years Project Intern (particularly notes regarding this position marked by *)

Start Date: Early June

End Date: Late August

Schedule: full-time/40 hours per week (summer); some work each week may be done remotely, depending on the position

Compensation: unpaid; applicant must be eligible to receive academic credit

Responsibilities

Internship duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching information for specific client campaigns, including new business and outreach projects
  • Supporting the planning and execution of online and offline events, panels, and discussions
  • Supporting development and distribution of internal and external communication collateral, including social media and a quarterly e-newsletter
  • Assisting with organization and management of current projects
  • Limited administrative duties
  • More specific duties will depend on intern's interests, and the particular internship position

100 Years*

The 100 Years project is a groundbreaking multimedia movement that will shine a spotlight on the experiences of African Americans centenarians. The 100 Years campaign will craft an innovative framework for our country's history by bringing to life ordinarily extraordinary stories of dignity, struggle, hope and triumph. The project prominently features a full narrative documentary film focusing on 20th century America through the eyes of select, living African-American centenarians, and also will tell these compelling stories through photography, music and the written word. Additionally, a robust education and outreach initiative will leverage the media as catalysts for changing our nation's perspective of the last 100 years of American history.

  • Supporting and leading fundraising efforts for the 100 Years Project, including grant writing, corporate giving strategy, and development and management of online microfunding campaigns*
  • Identifying, recruiting, and developing relationships with Advisory Board members and other high-profile campaign players*
  • Assisting with 100 Years campaign research, logistics, and strategy*

Entertainment/Social Change*

  • Working on a research project exploring the confluence of entertainment media and social change
  • Identifying and interact with representatives from nonprofit and entertainment sectors who can assist with research

Additionally, graduate level Social Impact Campaign interns will be work with staff to select a significant, independent project of which they will take ownership for the duration of the internship experience.

Qualifications

Education: Ideal undergraduate candidates will be enrolled in or entering the third or fourth year of school, with a strong interest in media, grassroots activism, and affecting social change. Ideal graduate candidates will be enrolled in an MBA or other graduate level program with a strong interest in media, grassroots activism, and affecting social change.

Candidates for the Entertainment/Social Change Internship must be graduate students.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience involving client contact, research and analysis, written communication and/or social media. Experience may include on-campus involvement, jobs, or other internships in a business or nonprofit enterprise.

Additionally, candidates should have:

  • Strong research, writing, and computer skills
  • Strong interest and experience in social media
  • Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail and pride in one's work
  • Experience and drive to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong interest and/or experience in fundraising and development*
  • Knowledge of nonprofit organizations and operations preferred, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience with research, and an ability to report findings in a concise manner
