ESS currently serves some 5,000 of New York City's most vulnerable residents annually through a broad range of programs in human services, including foster care and adoption, family preservation, early childhood education, after-school programs, group homes for developmentally disabled adults, and community re-integration of the formerly-incarcerated.

Position Overview:

Episcopal Social Services (ESS) is currently seeking motivated Training/ Employee Relations Human resources intern (unpaid for credit) to assist in Human Resources Department. The intern will work exclusively with the Employee Relations Manager and the Training Manager to learn the processes involved in Employee Relations and Staff Training.

HR Interns at ESS attain a wide array of experiences that will provide you will the tools necessary to excel in the Human Resources Field. In the past two years our team of interns have go on to become the following: HR Generalists, HR Assistants, HR Coordinators, IT Recruiters, Recruitment Coordinators, Benefits Assistants, Benefits Coordinators, and Administrative Assistants.

The intern must be able to devote at least three days to the internships from the hours of 9AM-5PM or 10AM-6PM, however we are very flexible if you would like to customize your schedule.

Essential Functions

  • Helps to ensure that all daily functions of the Training Department are in place and working well
  • Assists in planning, organizing and implementing a wide range of training activities for staff and others
  • Assist with setting up and management of New Hire Orientation sessions
  • Willingness and interest in co-facilitating training sessions on a variety of topics
  • Willingness to travel to various agency sites for training events
  • Assists with the set-up and break-down for trainings
  • Researches information and resources related to training needs
  • Assists in the development of curriculum to meet the training needs of staff
  • Assists in the management of training projects, timelines, and outcomes
  • Communicates with trainers, staff, and others
  • Aids in the understanding of training needs across the agency
  • Assists with data collection and analysis to evaluate the efficacy of training
  • Maintains databases on all trainings (agency wide & external training activities)
  • Assist with various HR projects and events
  • Completes various administrative tasks including, filing, faxing, scanning, training certificate production

Qualifications

  • Must be able to dedicate a minimum of 20 hours per week to the internship, on a regular defined schedule
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications. Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel required
  • Has or is working towards a graduate degree in Human Resources, Non-profit administration, Organizational Development or related field preferred
  • Ability to create databases
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness and desire to learn about all aspects of Human Resources
