Position Description: The Special Programs Coordinator will assist in the planning and execution of the Service Enterprise Initiative, a grant from CaliforniaVolunteers that will enable nonprofits to increase the delivery of mission-based services, expand community outreach and achieve core mission objectives by more effectively and sustainably leveraging their volunteers' time and talents. The program provides transformative training and support that culminates in the achievement of a Service Enterprise certification. This is the first year L.A. Works is delivering this Initiative to the Los Angeles nonprofit community and is excited to bring a Special Programs Coordinator to see its launch and success.
The position will get the opportunity of learning the innerworkings of nonprofit and volunteer management and be exposed to a variety of nonprofits in Los Angeles. Responsibilities: The Coordinator will play a big part in managing the logistics and preparations of four trainings from communicating with the participating organizations to assembling training materials and organizing the training rooms. Part of the role will involve developing a flow for the trainings for effective delivery of information. The Coordinator may interact with consultants as presenters. Also, the position will work closely with a select group of nonprofits to obtain their certification. The position may have the opportunity of being part of analyzing diagnostic results to determine which organizations will be participating in the program.
Requirements: Passion for community service. Excellent event planning or project development skills. Great written and oral communication. Great organizational skills and attention to details and deadlines. Comfortable taking initiative. Enthusiastic and eager to learn. Knack for creativity, generating ideas and putting ideas into action. Knowledgeable about the Los Angeles nonprofit and volunteerism landscape.
Equipment Requirements: Laptop and cell phone.
Hours: The Initiative is currently in progress and requires about 5 hours per week. When the trainings occur, the time commitment will likely increase to 10 hours per week during the week around the training. The training schedule is below and the Coordinator is strongly recommended to attend all four. They are scheduled from 10am-3pm:

Compensation: Unpaid. We can provide school credit, but all applicants must make their own arrangements with their host institution. Volunteers will benefit from this great learning experience, enhance their resumes, and build their personal and professional skills as they make a difference in the LA nonprofit community.
Location: The Coordinator will generally work from the L.A. Works Office located in Cypress Park, close to Elysian Park at the NE corner of Dodger Stadium. We are accessible by the gold line. The location of the trainings are not confirmed yet but will be located in Los Angeles. Depending on the nature of the tasks, there could be an opportunity to work from home on occasion.
Duration: We're looking for someone that can commit through the end of June when the Initiative is complete, but we're flexible and ask for at least a commitment until all the trainings are complete.
