Stage posté par Inquilinos Boricuas en Accion
Publié le : 26 févr. 2013
Who we are:
La Galería, part of the non-profit Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción, is a gallery specializing in the visual arts. We work with international, regional and local artists to produce six high-quality exhibits each year presenting work ranging from the folkloric to the avant-garde. La Galería's shows are curated to engage the community of Villa Victoria and showcase the diversity of Latino culture and the Latino experience while also connecting cultures together and critically examining them. We believe art can be used to explore social issues and empower those who might otherwise be silent.
Our parent organization:
Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción manages the low-income housing development Villa Victoria and administers several programs for Villa Victoria's residents and the greater community, with an emphasis on fostering Latino culture and well-being.
Villa Victoria Center for the Arts is a program of IBA and consists of both the live music program and La Galería, which is housed in the Center.
Details on the position:
The intern will ideally work in both development and public relations, and in both of these fields responsibilities will be centered on writing and research. Applicants should indicate if they are only interested in one of the two fields (development or public relations), but applicants interested in both are strongly preferred
Either kind of intern will primarily answer to La Galería's curator/gallery manager and the director of the Center for the Arts, but interns will also coordinate with IBA's primary communications and grant-writing staff and sometimes may confer with the director of the music program.
The following lists are not comprehensive but give an idea of the position's responsibilities

Location and length of position:
Interns will work one day a week at our offices in the South End, or potentially at home, with on-site meetings as necessary. The length of the internship should be agreed upon at the beginning between the applicant and the gallery manager and will probably be between 3 and 6 months. This internship is unpaid.
Required skills:
Aside from being generally professional, applicants should be proficient in MS Word and Excel. Familiarity with databases is a plus, as grant research often uses them. Prior development or public relations experience preferred. Spanish language ability, while useful, is not required for this internship.
Applicants should show initiative and the ability to solve problems independently. Innovative problem solving will be necessary.
