World Cares Center (WCC) is a registered 501(c)(3)nonprofit, which delivers disaster preparedness and response trainings to empower citizens, youth, seniors and civic leaders throughout communities of varying ethnic and economic backgrounds. By ensuring that individuals and agencies are prepared to respond to any sort of emergency situation, WCC alleviates the suffering that can beset communities affected by natural and manmade disasters. We train emergency response managers and local leaders to utilize community resources and coordinate large scale contingency plans in collaboration with other responding organizations that take into account the specific needs of each resident.
Qualified candidates should possess comprehensive knowledge and experience in disaster relief and preparedness and thorough understanding of the mission and accomplishments of World Cares Center. The Youth Trainer will supervise the implementation of World Care Center's "Master of Disaster" 7-week program, where at-risk and disadvantaged teenagers, aged 14-18, are taught valuable skills on disaster relief and preparedness, and trained to deliver the same lessons themselves. Furthermore, the intern will provide support to World Care Center's two Volunteer Coordination Centers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include any and/or all of the following:
World Cares Center's offices operate from 8:45 AM – 5:00 PM, however World Cares Center events and projects often take place before and after work and on weekends, requiring the VISTA to work several evenings per month and multiple weekend days a year.
