The New School of Music is seeking a music education intern; 7 week position. NSM is looking for an enthusiastic, dependable and motivated individual.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with the NSM teaching staff in a number of different programs including musical theater, world music and general music programs. Intern will work directly in the class with the program director and student participants. Opportunities to implement lesson plans, learn classroom management skills, and become familiar with a community music school setting. This is an unpaid internship, requiring a commitment of 30-35 hours a week.
Duties may include: helping students one on one, aiding in supplemental group activities, and assisting with the development of the final performances as well as daily prep and clean-up. Interns will be expected to supervise students in age groups ranging from 5-14 years old and interact with parents, staff, faculty, and fellow interns, so strong interpersonal skills are a must.
Program Dates: July 1 - August 16, 2013, typical hours 9-4pm
Intern must have proven experience and confidence in working with youth ages 5-14 and have the ability to lead groups. Ability to play a musical instrument is a plus.
