YSA (Youth Service America) improves communities by increasing the number and the diversity of young people, ages 5-25, serving in substantive roles. Founded in 1986, YSA supports a global culture of engaged youth committed to a lifetime of service, learning, leadership, and achievement. The impact of YSA's work through service and service-learning is measured in student achievement, workplace readiness, and healthy communities.

The Global Youth Service Network (GYSN) is a coalition of local, state, national, and global organizations convened by YSA that are committed to engaging children and youth to solve problems and lead communities through volunteering, community service, service-learning, national service, and civic engagement.

YSA is seeking an Outreach Partnership Intern who will assist the Outreach Team with the expansion of new and existing GYSN partnerships to increase its impact.

Internship Objectives:

  • Systematize current partnership data using the customer relationship management (CRM) software Salesforce.com for easy reporting of partner data, developing links between YSA's national partners and their local level affiliates
  • Analyze YSA's current list of national and international partners for opportunities for growth
  • Review YSA's media hit list of GYSD 2012 organizational participants, cultivating a list of potential national and international partners
  • Develop a process to easily categorize GYSD participant media hits for use during GYSD 2013
  • Further research potential national and international partner fit based on YSA's organizational goals
  • Design recruitment materials and PowerPoint presentations for potential partners

The Intern will gain experience with Salesforce.com, develop skills in research, analytical thinking, project management, marketing and material development, and in creating strategic relationships.

Applicants should have:

  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (phone, e-mail communications)
  • Excel, word processing, and minimal graphic design / page layout experience
  • Some knowledge of service, volunteer, youth development, education, or nonprofit organizations
  • Interest in Salesforce.com/ customer relationship management systems
  • Ability to take direction as well as initiative
  • Interest in strategic partnerships
  • Excellent organizational abilities

Applicants may be graduate or undergraduate students and should be able to commit to 15-20 hours per week during the spring semester (3-4 months). This intern position is non-paid, but will offer a travel stipend. Offices are conveniently located nearby the McPherson Square and Farragut Square metro stations.
