Policy Intern: Syrian American Alliance, Washington, DCDescription:
The Syrian American Alliance (SAA) has an open position for a policy intern for Winter 2013 to perform general policy and organizational work in Washington, DC in support of the pro-democracy movement in Syria. SAA is a non-profit organization comprising Syrian Americans and Syrians living in the US supporting the democratic opposition and working towards the establishment of a free and democratic Syria. You will work as part of a national SAA team, directly with SAA Leadership, as well as with Washington-based SAA staff and staff of coalition organizations.
Sample duties:
- Legislative monitoring and outreach to Congress and the Administration in collaboration with members of SAA and coalition organization staff.
- Assist in monitoring policy developments on US and international community policy towards Syria, opposition matters and developments in Syria.
- Assist on a variety of communications matters, including correspondence with journalists and media organizations and writing and editing press releases and other communications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Recent graduate, or current undergraduate or graduate student, in the areas of international affairs, political science, communications, public policy, or other social science fields.
The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent academic credentials, superb writing skills, strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and will be a strong team-player. Reading and writing fluency in Arabic is not required, but preferred.
This position is an unpaid, part-time position based in Washington, DC.
