Description du stage

International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to ensure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to promote functioning public justice systems.

The DC internship program is designed to give undergraduate students through young professionals the opportunity to serve in IJM's headquarters. By being an intern you will participate in the ongoing work of protecting the rights of those subject to violent forms of oppression and human rights abuses.

IJM's Web Development Associate program provides web designers and developers with experience in a professional and fast-paced in-house creative environment. They will develop and maintain a variety of web-based sites and applications that will directly impact organizational objectives and goals through online engagement, fundraising, community building and social networking. Throughout this program, they will work closely with IJM's Web Developer and Director of Interactive & Creative Services and have the opportunity to learn new technologies and practice their skills in a real-world web development setting. They will gain valuable experience working with clients to strategize solutions that will help them achieve their project/campaign goals as well as play an integral role in the actual implementation of those solutions. Additional responsibilities include:

Back-end:

  • Participate in the on-going assessment and execution of continuous improvements/upgrades of IJM's web presences; improve user experience through the optimized server and database performance;
  • Work with the Web Developer in designing, developing, and supporting online campaigns (fundraising, advocacy, etc.) through integration with the Convio platform with other webservices through SOAP or REST API's;
  • Perform Quality Assurance tasks for the maintenance of Web site functions; troubleshoot error reports and work with the Web Developer to validate that any updates and upgrades are performing properly;

Front-end:

  • Assist the Web Developer in the updating and maintenance of IJM's web presences - including content, styling, and functionality;
  • Develop for multiple mediums (traditional web, web app and mobile), taking into consideration the interaction nuances and advantages of the different mediums;
  • Create and update HTML email templates;

Requirements:

  • Must have completed a minimum of 5 semesters or equivalent (junior year, second semester)
  • 2 years or more experience with web development and coding, either in a professional or freelance setting;
  • Experience implementing front-end designs within a web-based content management system (e.g. Drupal, Expression Engine, WordPress, etc.);
  • Proficient, hands-on knowledge of XHTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, as well as other web development/production tools;
  • Possess a strong command of web standards, cross-browser compatibility and various web-related optimization techniques;
  • Clear, articulate written and oral communications; and
  • Experience in graphic creation/editing skills using Photoshop and Illustrator is preferred.
