POSITION SUMMARY

Global Citizen Year seeks an energetic, resourceful, and relentlessly detail-oriented Program Assistant to support the process of selecting and onboarding new Fellows and preparing them for the year ahead. Reporting to the Manager of Outreach and Admissions, the Program Assistant will work closely with a young and dynamic team, as well as with newly-selected Fellows, to support Program goals and activities in furtherance of Global Citizen Year's mission and growth plans.

This position offers the strongest performers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to multiple facets of the organization and program cycle while also being considered for promotion to future positions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting admissions process for future Fellows by organizing and overseeing logistics for the application review and interview processes (three cycles per year)
  • Spearheading the process of onboarding new Fellows and preparing them for the year ahead by tracking materials, distributing country-specific preparation materials, and coordinating relevant communications between new Fellows, Oakland staff, and global teams
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of content and logistics for programmatic initiatives including the Summer Campaign, Re-Entry and Fall Trainings, and Spring Events.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Successful candidates will possess the following skills:

  • Mission-driven: Demonstrated commitment to the mission and vision of Global Citizen Year.
  • Results-orientation: Process and outcome-oriented with exemplary organizational skills. Proactively stays on top of multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing competing demands. Identifies and involves stakeholders in a timely and appropriate manner, especially to provide progress updates and manage workload.
  • Detail-orientation: A disciplined perfectionist with a keen eye for even the smallest details.
  • Quick learner: Comfortable with IT systems, curious, with demonstrated experience grasping new concepts and handling increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills: Active listener and exceptional communicator who presents information (written and verbal) with clarity and precision; is courteous and calm under pressure.

The following are strongly preferred:

  • IT systems knowledge: Microsoft Office, GoogleApps, Salesforce, Form Assembly, WordPress
  • International living: Minimum 6 months living in another country, preferably in the developing world.
  • Language: Proficiency in one or more foreign languages, especially those relevant to Global Citizen Year.

POSITION DETAILS

Terms: This is a 35 hour/week, 4-6 month Internship.

Compensation: Monthly stipend commensurate with experience.

Location: Oakland

Start date: Between March 1-15
