Overview: The marketing and development intern assists the Marketing and Development team in publicizing the mission of Abilities Without Boundaries (AWB) through social media, advertisements, general media, special events, advocacy and community outreach. The goal of these efforts are to generate funds and donations for AWB's programs, cultivate relationships with local businesses and garner job and community experience opportunities for AWB clients with developmental disabilities.

Duration: This internship will run from January through May 2013 with a minimum of 8 hours per week. Completion of weekly hours is flexible within AWB's office hours Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 4PM.

Typical Intern Duties include assisting the Marketing and Development team with:

Daily Operations:

  • Maintaining AWB's social media presence by updating Facebook, organizational webpages, generating eNewsletters, and maintaining all web profiles
  • Maintaining and updating donor and supporter databases
  • Overseeing internal and external communications
  • Identifying and managing ongoing grant and funding opportunities

Special Events:

  • Planning and executing AWB's 1st Annual Job Fair in March 2013
  • Planning and executing AWB's Annual Appreciation Reception
  • Identifying and cultivating relationships with donors and sponsors for AWB as a beneficiary of the 2nd Annual Cheshire Half Marathon
  • Annual preparations for the Hot COCO 5K and other fall events

Advocacy:

  • Planning and executing AWB's Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign in March 2013
  • Identifying opportunities to publicize the efforts and contributions of people with disabilities throughout central CT

Job Creation:

  • Cultivating relationships with businesses to employ people with disabilities
  • Identifying and creating advertising opportunities for AWB's job and business services

Other tasks and responsibilities will be discussed throughout the duration of the internship.

Requirements:

  • Student must be seeking college credit for this internship
  • Student must be pursuing a degree in marketing, business, advertising or a related field
  • Student must be able to provide his/her own transportation to AWB throughout the duration of the internship
