DEVMEDIA (short for Developmental Media) is a Liberian civil society media organisation founded in 2008 to champion the rights of the people and develop them positively. It is their mission to to serve as a medium for the growth and development of the fundamental principles of humanity, human dignity and gender equality. DEVMEDIA has repeatedly trained young people in citizen journalism, Professional digital video and audio editing, Youth leadership and life skills. DEVMEDIA's niche lies in documentation, and they have produced informative and educative documentaries about issues in Liberia.
Interns are expected to have, at minimum, a sustained and reflected (via the CV and cover letter) interest in some or all of the following areas: Youth Development, economic and social Governance as well as decision making initiatives. They should be capable of conducting research on young women and youth participation in governance and decision making and be able to work with youths by initiating programmes to ignite change, drive votes and produce a new generation of leaders. The successfull candidate is a skilled youth mobilizer and a creative and innovative team player. Skills in Lobbying and Resource Mobilisation are an added advantage.
Basic Responsibilities and Potential Tasks:
ACIPP Liberia interns live in homestays with Liberian families. The house will be fully furnished and has western style toilets and plumbing. Interns may be placed 2-3 to a room. Please let us know if you have any special accommodation or dietary concerns.
Time commitment: Our internships are generally no shorter than 8 weeks time (although exceptions can and have been made). The internship can last up to six months.
Academic Credit: Many universities have given academic credit for our internships, and we will work with you in obtaining credit if you would like.
Fees:
1) Programme Fee: All interns are housed at the ACIPP house, and are provided with meals (2x/day), accommodation, airport pick-up and drop-off, orientation and 24/7 emergency care support for a flat fee of $200 a week (the is the Programme Fee).
2) Confirmation Fee: This non-refundable $500 fee secures the placement. It also pays for the placement set-up (going to the host organization and explaining the intern's background, etc.), donation to host organization (for their time teaching and training you), airport pick-up (getting the intern from airport to the home, getting the staff member to and from Freetown, etc.).
