SDCN Undergraduate Fellowship
The Sustained Dialogue Campus Network (SDCN) is seeking enthusiastic, engaged young leaders for a hands-on, outstanding internship opportunity in Washington, D.C. Ideal candidates will be passionate about fields including: civic engagement, youth dialogue, diversity, inclusion, social enterprise, and conflict resolution.
Our mission is to develop everyday leaders who engage differences as strengths to improve campuses, workplaces, and communities. We work primarily with U.S. college campuses and DC-area non-profits. Our goal is to transform relationships to design change on campuses, and to equip the next generation of leaders with tools to create inclusive workplaces and communities.
Our Process: Rooted in the conflict resolution work of senior Middle East diplomat Hal Saunders (who served under five different presidential administrations, was a key drafter of the Camp David Peace Accords, and Assistant Secretary of State to Henry Kissinger), Sustained Dialogue® is a five-stage process that (1) transforms relationships in order to (2) design community change.
As a dynamic, creative, and small nonprofit, SDCN offers a unique fellowship experience. Interns will work closely with SDCN Program Directors and the Executive Director to develop and carry-out projects that contribute to their personal growth and development.
Responsibilities may include: (Tailored to the individual based on skills and organizational need)
Program:
- Write and develop new program materials and resources for students, including issue guides, manuals and dialogue curriculums
- Provide support for the Summer Conference, Moderator Workshops and other trainings offered by SDCN
Research:
- Research potential areas of alignment with other related organizations
- Support SDCN's research on "Race and the American Dream on College Campuses"
- Explore potential grant and funding opportunities
Communications:
- Contribute to SDCN’s online presence, including updating and writing articles for our website, blog, and newsletter
- Support SDCN's CRM platform, Salesforce, by maintaining contact management practices
- Manage SDCN social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and LinkedIn
- Create press releases, as needed
Job Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task with confidence and be highly organized
- Energetic, self-motivated, and a positive attitude
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to adapt to changing plans and deadlines
- Interest in non-profit development, millennial leadership development, civic engagement, and diversity, inclusion, and conflict resolution
- Experience with HTML encoding; photo and video editing software; and/or Salesforce is a plus
Time Required: Start date in mid May 2012 (negotiable). Part-time and full-time positions available (20-40 hours/week). Some remote work possible, but office time will be required. Position lasts until August 2012.
