Through research, financial efforts and outreach, LiVelocity empowers gay, bisexual, and same gender loving men of color, encourages them to live their lives openly, provides education, advocacy, & social support services, and seeks to change the hearts and minds of others to the side of equality. LiVelocity will also provide funding support for initiatives that empower LGBTQ persons in urban communities.
We are looking for a creative, motivated and energetic individual who has demonstrated strong volunteer management skills to fulfill this role. The candidate must be able to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
Your primary responsibilities and duties would include the following:
- Researching and writing volunteer policies and procedures.
- Liaising with departments within the organization or with organizations for which they are recruiting volunteers (e.g. charities and councils) to understand how they work, develop partnerships and assess their volunteering needs.
- Generating appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the organization.
- Raising organization and community awareness of the role and function of volunteers.
- Ensuring there is appropriate support and training for volunteers.
- Promoting volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns.
- Recruiting volunteers and ensuring they are appropriately matched and trained for a position.
- Organizing rotations and providing instruction and training.
- Monitoring, supporting, motivating and accrediting volunteers and their work.
- Celebrating volunteering by nominating volunteers for awards and organizing celebration events.
- Offering advice and information to volunteers and external organizations through face-to-face, telephone and email contact.
- Organizing profile-raising events to attract new volunteers.
- Working with multiple agencies across different sectors in order to establish good working relationships to recruit volunteers.
