The American Red Cross International Services Department (ISD) seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering around the world by responding to disasters, building safer, more resilient communities, and educating future humanitarians. In the coming years the American Red Cross will deepen and expand its programming around the world while also working to strengthen the global Red Cross Red Crescent network, in order to deliver vital help and hope to some of the most vulnerable communities.

SUMMARY:

The American Red Cross International Services Department (ISD) seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering around the world by responding to disasters, building safer, more resilient communities, and educating future humanitarians. In the coming years the American Red Cross will deepen and expand its programming around the world while also working to strengthen the global Red Cross Red Crescent network, in order to deliver vital help and hope to some of the most vulnerable communities.

The Program Integration unit is looking for an intern (paid) to work with a team of advisors who are responsible for providing technical expertise to our global programs in more than 30 countries, including our current work in development of programs in Haiti.

The intern will work as part of a small team where he/she will gain knowledge and experience in international programming while assisting the recording of programs in the new software database system for project management. The accurate recording of new programs will require close coordination with the technical advisors and program officers for the regions and the Haiti Assistance Program. The intern will receive professional level work in a supervised atmosphere and be provided opportunities to learn the processes in project and program development.

We are looking for an intern who can work 20 hours per week through the end of the May.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include writing, researching past programs; providing progress reports on projects; filing and cataloging materials; reviewing and entering updated material; supporting program review processes; testing software adaptability to changing program development needs, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate student pursuing degree in International studies, program management, or related area
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized, and have strong analytical and writing skills
  • Overseas experience, or strong interest in international issues is a highly desirable
  • Computer skills, including basic data base or excel are desirable
  • Must be responsible, mature, able to work independently, highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and work under deadline pressure
  • Willingness to do basic research and administrative support depending on daily priorities
