2013 Social Media Intern MSABC Boston

The American Cancer Society is seeking a non-profit minded Social Media Intern to increase visibility of our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston. The ideal candidate will be fluent in social media, with some knowledge of volunteer based health organizations and fundraising. Must be a great written and oral communicator and know how to motivate people to take action electronically. This position provides the opportunity to add valuable experience and practical knowledge to your resume, growing your appeal with a broad range of employers.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage and engage followers on various social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest and blogs on a daily basis including responding and real time management
  • Create and manage an editorial calendar
  • Work with event sponsors, participants, and donors to coordinate and promote their activities within their company's social medial channels
  • Leads campaigns which identify, engage and activate target audiences
  • Monitor key online conversations on company social media pages, blogs, and community forums
  • Pursues and seeks leads to create stories, information briefs and social media messages consistent with American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer marketing objectives
  • Contribute to the development of our social media strategy to maximize consumer communications
  • Engage and motivate the company's most active online advocates and ensure that their efforts are recognized
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements Include:

  • Enthusiasm and passion about non-profit organizations and fundraising
  • Intrinsic understanding of social media practices
  • Extremely organized, detail oriented, and able to adapt in a constantly changing environment
  • Strong writing and communications skills
  • Friendly and conversational
  • Demonstrated experience working with Facebook, Twitter and blogging platforms
  • Fast learner
  • Creative – can think outside the box
  • Self-starter and team player that is technology savvy
