Description du stage

Interested in fairtrade design? Economic solidarity? Want to help the growth of a women's recycled design project in Quito, Ecuador?

NADENA is a recycled design project for women based within the charity Cenit which has been working for 20 years in El Camal, Quito Ecuador. CENIT is a non-profit organization devoted to helping working children (especially girls) and their families overcome grinding poverty and improve their quality of lives through recreation, medical, social, and psychological services, nutrition programs, education, and vocational training.. NADENA is the production branch of Cenit. We work to give both practical skills and empowerment training to mothers in a poor barrio of Quito. We have a recycled jewellery workshop, bag making workshop and a recycled card workshop which we are currently modernising with new machinery to increase production and modernize designs. Your working time will be flexible. Some time will be spent directly in the workshop with the women's groups. You may be visiting potential clients, having meetings or doing design work at home.

We are looking for designers/artists to keep the creative imput in the project. The role not only involves creativity but also running the project(for example one day a meeting with a government department, the next meeting with prospective sales points to talk about the project) so volunteers would also need to organised and good at multi -tasking.

All volunteers would need to be able to speak good spanish. Creative thinkers, ability to problem solve, ideas welcome. This role gives you real experience of working in a fair trade environment and contributing to the growth of the project. You would be working alongside sales/marketing volunteers. We are looking for minimum 6 month commitments as the roles are complex, but would consider specific skills for a shorter period. min age 22+

We don't charge you to volunteer. We can't usually provide housing but we can help you find cheap housing in the city. We do sometimes have free rooms in our centre so do still write if money is an issue.
