­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Job Summary:
The Social Media Intern, STEM Education is responsible for assisting the STEM Manager and the STEM Program Associate in the effective implementation and promotion of AAUW Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs through social media. Central to this responsibility is the coordination of social media efforts and marketing of STEM programs.

Position requires approximately 20 hours per week. This is a paid internship.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform regular research on social media outlets utilized by AAUW branches to identify and track branch STEM programming
  • Assist AAUW members and branches with promotion of local STEM programs
  • Market AAUW national STEM programs online using Facebook, Twitter, blogs and web content
  • Attend weekly social media team meetings, collaborate on cross-departmental efforts
  • Properly format, categorize and tag STEM content posted to AAUW social media outlets
  • Assist STEM Program Associate in gathering content for Spotlight on STEM newsletter
  • Alert STEM staff to user feedback on social media channels (questions, complaints or outreach)
  • Research and assess usefulness of new social media tools and platforms for STEM programs
  • Track growth and success of social media marketing efforts using online analytic tools
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with content creation for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, blogs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with social media analytics or other metrics
  • Interest in STEM education and/or programming
  • Familiarity with women's rights issues and AAUW mission
  • Capable of working independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor; successful applicant will be comfortable working in an office setting.
