Social Venture Network (SVN) is a nonprofit membership organization of approximately 550 socially responsible CEOs, investors and nonprofit leaders committed to building a just and sustainable world through business. SVN is seeking an enthusiastic self-starter to help with administrative tasks related to systems and office management, and to perform data management tasks in preparation for our 2013 Spring Conference. This volunteer fellowship is ideal for someone who is interested in:

  • A career in socially responsible/sustainable business, administrative or project management
  • Gaining experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Learning more about socially responsible business and key figures in this sector

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator, the fellow will primarily contribute to the maintenance and improvement of our database systems, using Salesforce and YourMembership.com (our member database), but also help with administrative tasks related to membership development, event planning and marketing. Depending on the interest and experience of the selected candidate, responsibilities will include:

  • Performing tasks to keep our databases clean and effective
  • Scheduling calls and making travel arrangements for directors
  • Using mail merge in Microsoft Word and helping to prepare print communications for post
  • Updating and maintaining member information and sending welcome packets to new members
  • Generating reports for email marketing campaigns
  • Maintaining speaker and session databases
  • Providing logistical support for conference programs and local gatherings
  • Performing research tasks as needed

Required Skills

The ideal candidate has some work experience and is interested in sustainable business and/or the nonprofit sector. We are particularly interested in the following skills:

  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative personality with a high comfort level in a small office setting
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with Macintosh computers
  • Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce a plus)
  • HTML knowledge a plus

Fellowship Commitment

The ideal candidate would be able to start in late January to early February and can commit to a minimum of 4 months, working 15-30 hours per week. This position is non-paid, but we do offer some compelling benefits (below).
