Description

Hands On Hartford is a non-profit agency that provides basic services to people in need in the Hartford community. We run direct service programs to provide food, housing and support services, and work with volunteers from all over the Greater Hartford area to help provide those services and to strengthen the connections we all have as members of the same community.

Hands On Hartford's direct service programs focus on three areas: basic human needs, family support services, and supportive housing.

MANNA: Provides basic needs including nutrition to thousands of individuals in Hartford each month. Through our food programs: Community Meals, Community Pantry, Senior Community Café, and the Backpack Nutrition Program, we provide meals and groceries to individuals and families in need.

Peter's Retreat: Provides individuals and families (including those living with HIV/AIDS) with comprehensive and compassionate case management services necessary to live healthier lives and to break the cycle of homelessness.

Family School Connection: Through weekly home visits, staff helps parents of kids at Betances Early Reading Lab School to address concerns in areas such as behavioral, language, learning or other developmental issues, problems meeting basic needs of the child, and frequent unexcused absences or tardiness.

Faces of Homelessness Speakers' Bureau: A statewide alliance of concerned individuals who have experienced and continue to experience homelessness. The Speaker's Bureau is a platform for members to share their firsthand experiences with homelessness and speak out against this continuing unjust reality by organizing speaking engagements hosted by a diverse range of community groups.
