Since 1946 the Middle East Institute has been an important conduit of information between Middle Eastern nations and American Policy makers and organizations. From our founding until today we have worked to increase knowledge of the Middle East among our own citizens and to promote understanding between the peoples of the Middle East and America. Today we play a vital and unique role on Middle Eastern issues by carrying our work beyond the beltway and by working actively with organizations in the region itself. Our Public Policy Center and Department of Programs present to Washington and beyond, on line, programs with top experts and officials from the US and foreign governments. And, in cooperation with the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Middle East Embassies in Washington we are developing a new cultural program. Our Library, the George Camp Kaiser Library, has the best English language collection on the Middle East outside of the Library of Congress. We publish quarterly one of the most prestigious Journals on the Middle East, The Middle East Journal, and our Department of Language and Regional Studies offers language courses in Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi and Turkish and seminars highlighting the history, literature and culture of the Middle East.
