Mission
The ProCure Cancer Foundation provides support to proton radiation therapy patients in need of financial assistance by funding non-medical expenses associated with the treatment to ensure access to the improved quality of life proton therapy enables.
The Need for the ProCure Cancer Foundation
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1.6 million people were diagnosed with cancer in 2012. It is estimated that at least 290,000 of them were eligible for proton therapy but unable to receive the treatment due to the limited number of operating centers in the United States.
Even when the treatment is available, however, airfare and lodging costs place a severe burden on many patients who cannot afford to travel to one of the existing facilities. Proton therapy is an intensive treatment, requiring a lengthy stay away from home (approximately six to eight weeks, depending on the type of cancer), often accompanied by a family member/companion. The aggregate cost of airfare, daily travel and hotel accommodations can be extremely taxing on a family's financial resources. This is where the ProCure Cancer Foundation seeks to help. Our grants will offset some of these costs, helping patients gain access to this life-saving treatment regardless of their financial means.
About the ProCure Cancer Foundation
The ProCure Cancer Foundation is a public charity incorporated in the State of Delaware. We collaborate with networks of former proton therapy patients, existing centers, proton therapy vendors, physicians and hospitals to carry out our mission. In order to ensure cost-effectiveness and maximize patient assistance, the ProCure Cancer Foundation relies heavily on its board members and volunteers for guidance and support.
