Syrian Expatriates Organization is a non-profit educational organization registered in the USA and includes Syrians living in many countries outside of Syria. In early 2011, a group of Syrian expatriates, inspired by the Arab Spring, got together to discuss the future of Syria, as it seemed inevitable that Syria would be affected by the events taking place in the rest of the Middle East.
On March 2011, as the Syrian Revolution began, the group quickly geared its efforts towards supporting the struggle of the Syrian people in their quest for freedom, democracy, and reform. The coalition of expatriates gained momentum and its membership grew, and eventually was registered as an active non-profit organization in the USA. SEO became a means through which expatriates could support the revolution in their motherland. As the months passed by, and as the peaceful demonstrations in Syria were being met with brutality and extreme violence, the Syrian Expatriates Organization's work evolved into several action groups with projects aiming to shine the light on the events taking place inside Syria to the world media, as well as supporting the activists on the ground.
The short term goal of the Syrian expatriates organization is to continue the support of the Syrian people in their struggle logistically by providing medical assistance and telecommunication tools to the activists on the ground and to raise awareness of the atrocities committed by the regime. Other projects of SEO will continue to explore channels of outreach to media and decision makers by organizing demonstrations and advocacy campaigns to inform the international reaction towards the crimes against the Syrian people.
In the long term, the Syrian Expatriates Organization foresees continuing to support the Syrian people as they rebuild Syria, and reestablish the concept of citizenship that was long missing in Syria for the past few decades.
