Description

The mission of Operation Jump Start is to provide structure and resources for disadvantaged youth to reach their potential through a college education. In pursuit of its mission, OJS provides individualized mentoring, enrichment programs, and other support services to Long Beach area students beginning in the eighth grade and continuing on though high school. The one-on-one mentoring relationships and expansive array of activities have proven successful in helping OJS scholars succeed - so much so that among program graduates, 98% go on to college - 83% to a four-year university or college.

Graduates in college are supported through the College Success program, a case management program designed to empower their success with higher education.

OJS also provides a classroom-based curriculum that introduces middle school students to the idea that they can go to college one day.
