Description

The International Association of Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP) is an association made of and governed by professionals engaged in humanitarian action. Established in Brussels in mid 2010 as an International Non-Profit Association under Belgian Law, PHAP's mission has been designed to respond to a growing demand for professional development and networking opportunities among individuals deployed in the context of humanitarian crises. PHAP is based on the recognition that humanitarian professionals, particularly from the global south, benefit from a remarkable range and depth of experiences.

The PHAP Professional Development Program (PDP) is composed of a series of educational opportunities for professionals engaged in humanitarian assistance and protection. The PDP offers a unique opportunity for mid-career professionals to develop strategic and managerial skills; deepen their understanding of applicable legal, policy, analytical, and operational frameworks; and expand their informal networks. By engaging on emerging challenges and issues, the PDP also aims to enrich discussions and debates around humanitarian action and improve the professionalism of international responses to situations of armed conflict, natural disasters, and other humanitarian crises.

PHAP organizes Core Professional Trainings on Humanitarian Law and Policy and Thematic Workshops on a number of specific issues in Europe, South East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, and North America.

  • 11 - 15 July: Cambridge 2011 Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy & Thematic Workshop on Counterterrorism under International Humanitarian Law and Policy
  • 19 - 23 September: Brussels 2011 Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy & Thematic Workshop on Monitoring and Enforcing International Humanitarian Law
  • 24 - 28 October: Nairobi 2011 Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy & Thematic Workshop on Children, Violence, and Armed Conflict
  • 5 - 9 December: Geneva 2011 Core Professional Training on Humanitarian Law and Policy & Thematic Workshop on Engaging with Non-State Actors: Opportunities and Challenges
