Description

Established in 2002, Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability and Professionalism (LEAP) Africa, a nonprofit organization committed to developing dynamic, innovative and principled African leaders, has dedicated his efforts to working with visionary youth, business owners and social entrepreneurs. Over the years, LEAP has inspired and equipped its beneficiaries to lead ethically while implementing positive change projects that transform their communities and organizations; thereby sustaining livelihood and contributing to national development.

LEAP also conducts extensive research which serves as a basis for its innovative curriculum and publications. It has published five books on ethics, governance, leadership and succession planning. Through the support of funders and partners, LEAP has worked in 26 states across Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory. To date, it has reached 30,000 individuals through its core programmes and over 250, 000 individuals through its local and international speaking engagement.

Key Programmes

Youth Programmes

Youth Leadership Programme: Launched in 2004, this programme equips young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 30 with life and leadership skills. It also provides them with small grants to commence leadership projects to improve the lives of others in their communities.

Leadership, Ethics and Civics (LEC) Programme: In 2008, LEAP successfully introduced its LEC curriculum in select secondary schools across Nigeria. The programme is delivered to students through the support of their teachers and is designed to equip students with the skills and tools required to cope with life's challenges and serve as change agents in their local communities.

Integrity Institute: This programme is focused on empowering Nigerian youth to take a stand on the issue of corruption by examining their contributions to corruption through their actions or inactions.

Employability Programme: This programme is geared towards improving the employability of disadvantaged people between the ages of 16 and 35. It equips beneficiaries with life, employability, personal development and basic ICT skills.

Nigerian Youth Leadership Awards: Established in 2004, the Annual Nigerian Youth Leadership Awards recognizes and celebrates the contributions of young people to Nigeria's development.

Business Programmes

Business Leadership Programme: Launched in 2003, this programme equips business owners who run small and medium scale enterprise in Nigerian cities with the skills and tools that they require to build sustainable organizations that will outlive them. It is offered in collaboration with Nigeria's leading financial institutions and business associations.

CEOs' Forum: Launched in 2005, the CEOs' Forum exposes business owners to the importance of planning for their succession and Instituting effective systems and structures, and values within their organizations, to ensure long term sustainability.

Governance Training for Boards of Directors: Designed for Boards of private and nonprofit organizations, the programme seeks to equip directors with knowledge and insights into their roles, responsibilities and liabilities as Board members. In addition, it supports Board members with the skills and tools they require to operate effectively and efficiently in providing oversight and direction to their organizations and maintaining appropriate ethical standards in their organizations.

Public Sector Programme: This programme is designed to equip individuals in the public sector with the critical skills and tools for effective leadership. In addition, its aim is to enhance their management capacity, efficiency and effectiveness for service delivery and setting an ethical standard in the public sector.

Leadership Research

LEAP invests in continuous research on leadership development in Africa. This research serves as the basis of its innovative curriculum. To date, LEAP has published the following books: Defying the Odds, Get on Board, Rage for Change, Building a Culture of Ethics and Passing the Baton.

Alumni Programmes:LEAP provides ongoing support services to its beneficiaries for at least two years after they have graduated from its core programmes.
