Since 2002 the Kutumb Foundation has been working with children and young people from the disadvantaged sections of the society. The Kutumb Foundation works out of the Khan Market area and from other parts of the Delhi-NCR. The organisation focuses on education and life-skill building amongst children and young people through alternative and creative mediums.
Our programmes:
1.) Indradhanush
An alternate educational programme with the children of the greater Khan Market area. We focus on English, Hindi and Maths with Youth Clubs for our elder peer leaders. Sessions held six times weekly, Monday-Saturday, 5-8 pm at R.S. Junior Modern School, Humayun Road.
2.) Goal of Life
A life skills programme through the sport of football. We focus on gender sensitivity, pluralistic education, conflict resolution and peer leadership. Sessions held twice weekly in three locations, Khan Market (Saturday and Sunday, 5-7 pm), Nizamuddin (Saturday and Sunday, 8-10 am) and Ghevra (Monday and Friday, 4-6 pm). We also hold an annual football tournament utilizing mixed teams from our three locations and emphasizing peer leadership.
3.) Josh-e-Umang and Hilley-ley
Our creative workshops ranging from theatre, dance, puppetry to music and arts and crafts. We also annually put on a theatre production, conceptualized and directed by Kutumb's peer leaders, with support from our dedicated volunteers.
4.) Ghevra Extension Learning Centre
Our field office in Ghevra and computer learning centre, in collaboration with the India Habitat Centre-Habitat Learning Centre. We hold basic computer education classes six times weekly with thirty students. We also use this space to hold gender workshops and screen films. We are in the process of developing a resource library at this field office.
5.) Active Pluralism
Our workshops held on multiculturalism and the celebration of otherness. We focus on dispelling misconceptions, stereotypes and prejudices concerning ethnicity, caste, religion, class and other potentially divisive categories.
