QSAC, Inc. is an award winning not for profit organization, serving the autistic population of New York City and Long Island. Over 2,000 people benefit from our services yearly. Autism is a complex and life-long disability. Males are four times more likely to have autism than females. The disorder severely impairs the development of the areas of the brain which control verbal and nonverbal communication, social interaction, and sensory development. Children suffering from autism typically retreat from the world, exhibiting a lack of responsiveness to people, disturbed speech (or no speech at all), and repetitious, aggressive or self-injurious behavior. There is no cure for autism, but there are effective therapies that can dramatically improve communication, reduce inappropriate or dangerous behavior, and facilitate integration into the community. The number of people with autism spectrum disorder has grown significantly over the last 10 years. Today, a staggering 1 in 110 children are diagnosed with autism and QSAC's programs are in overwhelming demand: at the present time, we have over 1,500 requests for services on our waiting lists! QSAC's goal is to improve the quality of life of individuals with autism and their families by offering the latest therapeutic techniques and the best services and environment for their specific needs. All of the services provided by QSAC are geared towards providing people with autism with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to lead a more independent, productive and fulfilled life.
