Together for Girls is a global public private partnership dedicated to eliminating violence against children, particularly sexual violence against girls. Launched in 2009 at the Clinton Global Initiative, Together for Girls draws partners from the United Nations (UNICEF, UNAIDS, UNFPA, UN Women, WHO), the U.S. Government (PEPFAR, CDC Division of Violence Prevention, State Department Office of Global Issues), and the private sector (Grupo abc, BD (Becton, Dicikinson and Company), CDC Foundation and Nduna Foundation). These partners draw the highest level policy leadership and technical expertise across sectors including child protection, gender-based violence, violence prevention, public health, and HIV to ensure a comprehensive response.
Together for Girls focuses on three pillars:
(1) National surveys and data to document the magnitude and impact of sexual violence, particularly focused on girls, to inform government leaders, civil society and donors.
(2) Evidence-based coordinated program actions in countries to address issues identified through the surveys, including legal and policy reform, prevention of sexual violence and improved services for children who have experienced sexual violence.
(3) Global advocacy and public awareness efforts to draw attention to the problem and promote evidence-based solutions.
Working with governments and civil society, the Together for Girls model builds on existing programs and platforms wherever possible to integrate the issue of violence against children into social welfare, health, education, HIV, and justice programs.
