Take part in our onboard educational programs, where you can learn about the history, culture and social justice issues of countries around the world. Peace Boat Guest Educators - including activists, academics, journalists and artists from around the world - are invited onboard to share their wealth of knowledge and experience, in creative ways such as concerts, workshops, forums and exhibitions.
From August 24th to August 30th, 2012 Peace Boat US is offering a new opportunity for University students to travel to Asia, visiting Japan and sailing to Vietnam onboard Peace Boat for a one week study program. This program will be guided by a special guest from the United States, Ms. Heather Bowser, an activist working to raise awareness of the lingering problems of Agent Orange and to build ties between those affected in the United States and Vietnam. Ms. Bowser was born with multiple birth defects after her father, a US soldier during the Vietnam War, was exposed to the chemical defoliant. She will introduce us to the history of the Vietnam War and share her experiences as a second generation Agent Orange victim. Participants in this program will learn about important issues onboard while traveling through Asia and meet with local people who will share their culture and personal testimonies with us in the city of Da Nang, a major port city in the south-central coast of Vietnam.
