Over the years I've written a lot of software that runs on Macs, iPhones, servers, TI calculators, Linux servers, and TRS-80s… and some of the code that makes this web page show up in your browser. Anyhow, I see my job here as bringing together engineering excellence with delightful user experiences: working on the nitty-gritty details necessary to make Idealist.org a breeze for anyone to explore and use.
Right now, I am working with my team on re-writing the front-facing web application using Node, React.js, and a variety of in-house software to lay the foundations for the next several years of Idealist's web presence. We're currently honing the first feature on the new platform for production and quite eager to get it in front of everyone!
I started my Computer Science degree in 1998 at the University of Central Florida. I ran into a whole bunch of life experiences that sent me on a different path for a while, but never too far away from computers. Along the way I met my wife Marjorie, who moved with me to Portland. We like to do work on our house, horse around with our dogs, Cholula and Lebowski, and most recently spend as much time as possible with our nearly-1-year-old daughter, Zora. I also like to bike, hike, run, and walk around the Pacific Northwest.
