As a Master of International Affairs (MIA) candidate at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), I am focusing my studies on Economic and Political Development with a specialization in Gender and Public Policy. I have experience working in research, development and communications for a variety of non-profit and non-governmental organizations in both New York City and in the Middle East (specifically in the West Bank, Israel and Jordan). In addition to my experience working with complex database systems, social media communications strategies, and research, I also have experience preparing, conducting, and analyzing impact, needs, and gender assessments.
I am currently working with the World Food Programme (WFP) Emergency Operations in Jordan. Under the supervision of a Columbia University faculty advisor, I serve on a team of graduate student consultants in the role of "gender and vulnerabilities specialist" to assess the likely impact of the reduction in WFP assistance to Syrian refugees, both on the refugees living in Jordanian host communities and on the supermarkets and shops that have been participating in its food e-voucher programme.
I am also currently supporting the Women's Refugee Commission (WRC) Campaign Manager in leading the Inter-Agency Steering Committee for the new Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Laws, which focuses on 11 countries including: Bahamas, Bahrain, Liberia, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Kuwait, Madagascar, Malaysia, Barbados, Qatar, Togo. In this position, my area of focus is on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, including the nations of Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabic, Bahrain, Algeria, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
