I excel at improving the operational efficiency of the companies I work for. It is easy for me to see how things can be done better, quicker or easier. I understand that people have different motivations for doing the job they do, and that a "one size fits all" approach doesn't always work. My rapid promotion at Vail Resorts from Lead to Supervisor to Assistant Manager of Lift Operations was the result of the new and effective ideas that I contributed to the department, and in the ways I was able to help our department meet our company's evolving goals.
I thrive on learning. I am at my best when presented with an opportunity to do something new and unfamiliar. I am often the person selected to take on a task that my boss considers important but would rather not deal with. I like getting involved and getting my hands dirty and discovering what resources are available and what obstacles need to be dealt with.
I care about employee morale. At every job I've held, the happiness of the people around me has been as important as the job itself. I like to organize fun and social activities outside of work for people who care to participate; things like after work happy hours, paintball, hiking and skiing trips, as well as company parties and after parties. I also consider it important to make sure that the people who work for me are in the right job. I've had employees who are not happy with their work requirements and act as an anchor, bringing down the rest of the staff. I consider it important to help my employees with self development, even if that means helping them move on to a new job that they will find more satisfying. I have significant experience with letting people go in a fair and respectful manner, and sometimes provide assistance to my colleagues when they are facing a potentially difficult conversation with one of their employees.
