Professional Experience:
Research and Policy Analysis
•Originated comprehensive policy analyses for NYC Council Member Gale Brewer in order to identify opportunities for greater local food sourcing by the DOE and Department of Administrative Services. These reports continue to serve as the foundation of Council Member Brewer's food policy advocacy.
•Independently developed research assessments for Chicago Alderman Scott Waguespack to be used as reference in policy advocacy campaigns including a comparative budget analysis to compare Chicago's distribution of resources with other major cities.
Legislative Consultation
•Led the policy research, inter-agency negotiations, and coalition building for Council Member Brewer's groundbreaking local food sourcing legislation, Intro 452-A, which passed City Council in July, 2011.
•Spearheaded the research, drafting and advocacy process for a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) transparency ordinance on behalf of Alderman Scott Waguespack, which contributed to the passage of the first TIF reform legislation by the Chicago City Council in over 25 years.
Leadership
•Successfully engaged Council Member Brewer's office in the City's school food and larger food policy debates by leveraging policy analysis to bring together government, advocacy, and constituent stakeholders in support of more sustainable and healthful food sourcing policies.
