Description du poste bénévole

Poverty Watch Ghana (P W G) is a Non Governmental Organization (N G O) established in 2008 by a young Ghanaian named Andrews Kofi Kamassa based in Ho municipality in the Volta region of Ghana, specifically Sokode Gbogame. PWG is grossly engaged in the fight against poverty in the rural areas especially deprived communities in the Volta Region of Ghana by targeting investment in Agriculture, promotion of Health Education, and integration of rural women economic development, protection of child's rights and protection of the environment as well as conservation of nature.

By this, their objectives are to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) initiated by the United Nations; reduce human poverty; foster democratic governance; promote sustainable education; reduce illiteracy; promote energy and environmental policies; strengthen resources to prevent and respond to crises; and fight diseases like HIV/AIDS and Malaria.

PWG strives to further assist the women in these communities in the fields of Education Health, Microfinance and Community Development and to assist impoverished rural communities in need in the Volta Region of Ghana with solutions-oriented advice and engage in ways that contribute to lifting up lives.

Mr. Kamassa's team focuses on empowering and equipping people, particularly young people and disadvantaged groups, as agents of proactive change within local communities. They achieve this through experiential learning, training and engaging in cultural exchange.

TEACHERS

Skilled Teachers in various subject areas are needed to help in teaching the children both in the care centre and in the classrooms. This would help them stay off the streets and be utilizing the spare opportunity to develop their reading and writing skills all together. Most of the children would be taught even after school.

The duties of the Teacher will include:

  • Support other teachers in teaching other subjects to the children.
  • Writing Lesson notes for various subjects and marking of Class room and Homework exercises.
  • In some cases, involve one-on-one tutoring of some special kids.
  • Maintains and keeps attendance and grades records accurately

HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATORS

Poverty Watch is in need of Human Rights Educators. They are looking for someone to help run workshops, review and develop current activities and programs and seek new potential partners. The Volunteer/Intern would approach these issues mainly through education, story-telling, music, concerts etc. in Schools and Community centre's. Some working or educational experience will be an advantage.

The work of the Human Rights Educator will include:

  • Produce materials to be used in educating the public on their Human Rights (Children, women, gays and bisexuals)
  • Organize outreach programs in specific areas to further disseminate this advocacy.
  • Designs surveys and various instruments in conducting needs assessments and related inquiries into community needs and requirements.
  • Conducting research and completing all necessary paperwork in relation to the above tasks.
  • Provides individual consultation and referrals
  • Writes articles for local newspaper publications on human rights issues
  • Responds to information requests on issues of harassment, sexism, racism, religious freedom, heterosexism, disability and other areas of human rights
  • Prepare statistical reports for the Director, Human Rights.

FUNDRAISER

Poverty Watch Ghana is dire need of sponsorships like many Non-Governmental Organizations to be able to run the organization and many other. A fundraiser would help in soliciting funds and materials for their projects and research further where future funds could be obtained.

The Intern/Volunteer duties include:

  • Write and develop proposals for various Projects.
  • Organizing and keeping accurate records of all donor items, cash and other materials
  • Organize and planning fundraising events with the director
  • Suggest improved ways of maintaining sponsorship relationship with existing partners and further research on developing new partnerships.
  • Also educate the staff on how to control the organization's accounts problems.
