Help break the cycle of illiteracy and poverty in DC by teaching Adult Literacy or GED classes at the YWCA!
We are looking for competent, patient, and responsible volunteers to teach in our evening GED program for the Fall term, which runs from September 5 through December 11. We need co-teachers for each of our four classes: Math, Reading/Writing, Science, and Social Studies. Each class occurs one evening a week, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. As part of this volunteer opportunity, you will be asked to:
Volunteers will receive training in classroom management, lesson planing, and subject-specific teaching techniques, and a staff member is always on-site to support volunteers during classes, if needed.
Teaching is one of the most rewarding ways to contribute to your community, because you can see the measurable results in the classroom and in your students' lives. By working to improve the education of your students, you automatically improve their employment chances, their likelihood of making a living wage, and the futures of their children.
