The existing patriarchal system in Indian society has not changed much in the past 100 years. Therefore many women are in relatively the same position their ancestors were more than a century ago. Though a percentage of the female population are successfully attaining a higher education, the actual position of women in terms of their capacity to make decisions and be independent in a true sense is still missing. Because women still largely occupy the position of 'house maker' they do not have economic capital in which they could support themselves independently. Thus, because many women are financially dependent upon their husbands they are often left to suffer in compromising situations. The intersecting factors of gender, caste and class contributes to women in Indian society facing more obstacles in comparison to men.
In 2012 the D.A.A.N. Foundation decided to take a step forward in order to help such women who belong to this sector of society. D.A.A.N. has decided to support a tailoring project where local afflicted women can start making an earning off their tailored goods. Our foundation act as a mediator by promoting and selling their finished goods. Currently our aim is to support 20 women who have been trained by our partner organization. We are seeking volunteers who can help us in project promotion and marketing new ways to sell these finished good so that we can help these mothers of India, the creators of life.
