The goal of this project is to engage communities in understanding and taking advantage of the opportunities present through development of the tourism industry. Tourism intersects a wide swath of Alaska's day-to-day life, and makes a big contribution to our State's economy. As a result, there are real advantages if tourism is well understood and has wide public support, including support by individuals, communities, agencies, organizations and the legislature. Support for tourism will grow to the degree Alaskans better understand the full breadth and magnitude of tourism's positive impacts. And while tourism brings many benefits, support will also be stronger if the public knows the industry is working to minimize less desirable impacts such as crowding, environmental damage, or changes to a community's character.
