Worldreader is a global non-profit headquartered in San Francisco and with offices in Europe and across Africa. Our mission is to make digital books available to children, families and communities so millions of people can improve their lives. As of June 2013, we've put over 662,008 e-books – and the life-changing, power-creating ideas contained within them – into the hands of 4,300 children in sub-Saharan Africa. Since our founding in 2010, Worldreader has emerged as the global leader in Mobile Learning. Today, we are scaling rapidly.
Our social innovation is creating a new marketplace for learning across the developing world, in which learning can take place both in formal educational settings via our e-reader programs, and in informal educational settings via our digital book-reading platform for cellular phones.
Our Worldreader Mobile Learning platform for cellular phones is accessed in 200 countries by 2.6 million users to date, and our e-reader programs currently operating in schools and libraries in 9 countries in sub-Saharan Africa including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe (and soon expanding to Ethiopia and Nigeria).
At Worldreader, we're passionate about books and the life-changing power of opportunity contained within them. If you share this passion, here is your opportunity!
Worldreader is launching a global Chapters Program, where Chapter Leaders will work with other passionate volunteers to fundraise on behalf of Worldreader in their communities. As a Chapter Leader, you will dream up your own program of events and drive it home to success. Of course, we will have your back!
We will provide each Chapter Leader with resources and assistance to help reach your Chapter's fundraising goals.
This opportunity will primarily entail networking with your friends and colleagues so as to raise funds and create awareness for Worldreader. This can be done by event planning, volunteer coordinating, and outreach/networking. The Chapter Leader will be responsible for reporting results back to Worldreader and to responsibly recording and transferring donations to Worldreader. Chapter Leaders should anticipate 1-3 working sessions (via satellite) with Worldreader staff to prepare for a Chapter's launch and to identify goals. Chapter Leaders should expect to contribute a significant number of hours per month, depending upon their schedule.
