The volunteer project is organized together with Evans Sunrise Medical Centre since 2011. The centre was a realization of the vision of its founders to provide the community it serves with quality, affordable healthcare within a caring environment. The hospital offers a number of services from treatment, prevention, training on life planning skills, providing health talks, offers HIV counseling, STI treatment, preventing mother to child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. It has both in-patient and out patient services. The hospital wants to demonstrate the power of voluntary service in the surrounding community.
The international volunteers will be involved in different healthcare activities, including counseling, talking to patients, assisting the nurse, cleaning, cooking and social work. The project will start with an orientation for the volunteers to understand the objectives and expectations of the program.
Project dates: October 2 - October 23, 2013
All volunteers will first meet in Nairobi for orientation. There will be an orientation meeting on October 2nd. From Nairobi the volunteers will travel together to the project site. Departure will be on October 3rd.
The group will work 5 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. Saturdays and Sundays are free. Sometimes, depending on the nature of work, the time can be extended.

Qualifications: No particular expertise or skills required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as medical knowledge and health sciences) will be used accordingly.
Location: Nakuru is located in Rift valley, approximately 2 and half hours drive from Nairobi. Public transport to the project site is available. The closest Hospital, Markets, Post Office, Banks (ATMs), Internet and other social facilities are located in Nakuru, 5 minutes drive from the project site. Terrain is flat and weather is hot.
