Join the programming department in a variety of roles to enrich the experience of our visitors. We are seeking individuals that enjoy working with the public, have a positive attitude, and excellent customer service skills. Our programming volunteers are divided into two categories with a specific training session to support each role. • Docent: Interpret Heritage's collections for school, community and adult groups by leading interactive, hands-on tours through our galleries and grounds. This position is available throughout the entire season with most tours April through June. Docent training is in late March/early April and includes training for the VEV role. • VEV (Visitor Experience Volunteer): Support the programming staff, visitor service staff, and docents by inspiring our visitors of all ages to explore, discover and learn together. This position is available throughout the entire season with a commitment of a minimum of 4 hours weekly. Training sessions for this role happen in March or July. o Greeter – Welcome visitors as they arrive at the entrance of Heritage Museums and Gardens, assist visitors in locating the ticket booth, distribute visitor guides, help with way finding, and recommend things to see and do within the grounds and galleries. o School Program Assistant – Be the extra set of hands to assist docents and programming staff to conduct school programs. o Event Assistants – Assist the programming staff and visitor service staff before, during, and after special events. Positions are usually event specific but could include: ticket taking, registration, directing visitors, craft station attendees and crowd control.
