Color of Hope ("COH") is currently seeking a volunteer Construction Manager. Work will include deconstruction, salvage jobs, and new construction build.
The volunteers will lead the construction of COH's first community center. The Hope & Innovation Center is focused on creating space and providing the tools for social, information, and professional development ( Click on link to learn more about the center http://colorofhope.org/site/2012/08/hope-innovation-center ) . Come help the people of Delmas community realize the full potential of their community through building the foundation for access to modern technology, tools and resources, and quality meeting space.
Volunteer will oversee and work hand-in-hand with local Construction workers and COH volunteers.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Serve as the lead to demolition and construction of community center
- Serve as leader of project coordination
- Developing construction project estimation of completion for weekly updates
- Creating new procedures as needed to address unforeseen contingencies
- Working with brick and mortar
- Leading the mixing of cement and laying of blocks and bricks
- Working with other experts for roofing, plumbing, electrical work, and interior work.
- Mentoring community members in the construction trade
Qualifications
- Ability to lift 50lb
- Construction experience is required (Except for volunteer coordinator); Exposure to surveying, concrete foundations, wood framing, and roofing, etc. preferred
- Knowledge of common construction tools and techniques or a desire to learn;
- Experience working with and/or a desire to work with people from various backgrounds.
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to work in a changing and dynamic environment
