Volunteers are the icing on the cake. We want to provide them with comfortable lodging while they are with us. In the past, volunteers have always stayed in hotels in Masaka Town, which is about a 15 minute drive, and of course the hotel room and the transport costs money. In building these huts for our volunteer village, they will no longer need to waste money on these things, and they will be afforded the cultural experience of staying in a traditional hut.
We are constructing the huts from our own locally sourced materials, which is great because this means it will not be expensive. But nevertheless, our main lodge is very large and of a different design from the small huts. It requires skilled craftsmenship and some materials which we do not have on hand. The total cost of the construction is 500,000/= Ugandan shillings, or roughly $230 USD. We already received 200,000/=, so we need about $130 USD, and of course hands to help with the building!
